[Mood board] Shopaholic x Wildfox Couture

All images belong to Wildfox Couture.
I would like to become leggier, put all that glitter in my hair and then make all the boys come to the yard.
That is all.

Museum of African Design is Chilli Cheese, Yo'

Museum of African Design Maboneng

Ah, even more reason to want to dive into Johannesburg's urban underbelly (except it's more the toned rib-cage-revealing-hip-bones-poking-out-never-gets-bloated-even-after-ciabatta-and-churros belly of the hipsters that frequent there): the Museum of African Design, lads and lasses.

I'm on a bit of a misson to culture myself and extract myself and my thinking from the closed off, manicured lawn, wrought iron fence suburbia I've lived in all my life. So that means less malls and more thrift stores, instead of Walnut Grove on Sundays there's Good Food Markets, museums, independent book stores - that kind of thing. And I just feel that before I can dream about Long Street or West Village, I should know my own city like the back of my hand, you know?

Which brought me to the very recently (as in Friday, the 25th, yo) launched Museum of African Design (MOAD) in, obviously, the Maboneng Precinct. Maboneng is definitely the direction in which everyone in the creative field is looking to right now. It's this evolving place filled with artisans and designers, up and coming inovators and independent thinkers.

The current exhibition, that will be running until the 3rd of November, is by the Southern Guild which features "over 200 works from over 100 South Africa's leading designers and artists" that will "provide a detailed and contextualised view point on collecatable, limited edition design."

Also, the museum building is actually an old factory that was built in the 1920s and it's basically been made to look like a construction site which is so fitting considering I think that's where South African design is in. Do make sure to visit.

[Polyvore] Cut My Teeth On Wedding Rings

I'm becoming increasingly obsessed with the bad girl motif and I think my environment of late has contributed immensely to that. Consider the 90s revival, the return of punk, grunge and '2COOL4U' movement, Rihanna's ever increasing rise in power - literally, she is my generation's Madonna, the return of hipsters, Indie and pretty much everything alt.com (music, art, film).

I think the contemporary girl has The Kooks on shuffle, a Tumblr app consuming most of the data on her iPhone, over fifty crop tops sorted by colour, season and mood, probably scared her mother three times this week alone (and it's only Monday), would like to join protest marches but all she can really do is Instagram it. She watches Twin Peaks and makes FU art on her laptop in between trying to adequately celebrate her friends, pursue whatever her dream could be and have a Starbucks.
She wears ironic statement jerseys and reads John Green and J.D. Salinger. She likes the way cigarettes feel but she knows better than to smoke it. Her jeans are pre-ripped and her plaid shirts have been every so carefully frayed at the hem.

But that just might be me. That's really just what's getting me turnt up right now in terms of photography and fashion. Hopefully I can rope one of my friends (see, I've been doing a lot of persuading, haggling and bamboozling lately) into turning my moods, motifs and shrines to life.
"But every song's like: gold teeth, Grey Goose, tripping in the bathroom, blood stains, ball gowns, trashing a hotel room... But everybody's like: crystal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece, jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash." Royals. Lorde, Pure Heroine.

[Vlog] South African Fashion Week A\W 2014 - Day III

Here is the output of two weeks of procrastination and laughter saltwater (because my friends are hilarious on video). Bear with me as this my first vlog-thing so it can't be all that great but I really like it and all my friends liked the SnapChat snippets I sent to them but then again that is only two people. (It's not Khensani, Khensani, Khensani, Khensani, Khensani without a dash of self-doubt.)

I really liked putting this together, getting to actually starting on it not so much, and I really want to make more of these. This may or may not be because Tony Gum has become my spirit animal. Whatever.

[Photography] Megan Jane, Queen of the Neighbourhood

Megan Jane Who

I've finally managed to wrangle one of my beautiful and well-dressed friends into starting a blog! Finally, someone will just empathetically nod when I go on about what a bitch my tripod was yesterday or how I was only late because I had to take a quick outfit photo for this here blog.

Introducing: Megan Who by Megan Jane Koster. Yesterday, we did a little photo shoot in her backyard in between HTML coding, Photoshopping headers and eating way too much food (buffalo wings, pizza, chocolate muffins, toasted sandwiches, chicken salads - and that was just breakfast). Eventually these and a lot more will be up on her blog too.

Yours,
Khenzo xx
